The Anniversary Bus Tour

For almost 31 years, half of Berlin was surrounded by a wall, the anti-fascist protective wall, and Germany was divided in two – a unique political situation in history. Dive into the past with an Urberliner contemporary witness with original Berlin snout and go with him on a search for traces. Experience the divided city up close again on the Reunification Tour.

Experience history up close

The two-hour experience bus tour leads along the former death strip for the most part. The tour starts in front of the Friedrichstadt-Palast. It goes along Bernauer Str. and the Berlin Wall Memorial.

Learn why and where Berlin was divided, what the border and everyday life looked like, how escape tunnels were dug from the basements of houses into Bernauer Strasse towards the West in night-and-fog operations, how residents abseiled from their apartments or jumped into the jump sheets of the West Berlin Fire Department.

Discover the ghost stations and the former border crossing at the Oberbaumbrücke, the longest remaining piece of the Wall, the East-Side Gallery and the tree house at the Wall (only in the tour on Sunday).

The most beautiful mistake in German history (press conference of the GDR), the Brandenburg Gate as a symbol of division and reunification, Potsdamer Platz and our tour ends on Sundays at the most famous border crossing Checkpoint Charlie and on Saturdays in front of the Friedrichstadt-Palast with a short break and exit at Checkpoint Charlie. On the Sunday tour there are two short exits at the memorial and at the Brandenburg Gate.
