Innovative and Artistic Design

With its innovative and artistic design, KunstHausWien catches the eye from afar. The Kunsthaus der Stadt Wien is the only building in Vienna designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser that is open to visitors 365 days a year. The museum and exhibition space was founded by Hundertwasser and houses the largest permanent collection of his works. It is one of the city’s most important sights and focuses on exhibitions about art, ecology, and nature.

KunstHausWien: contemporary exhibitions

The KunstHausWien consists of the permanent exhibition Museum Hundertwasser and other exhibitions that are constantly changing and give visitors different insights into artistic creations. The focus is particularly on environmental and sustainability issues, which are addressed and presented in the various exhibitions. The Museum Hundertwasser, which is anchored in the KunstHausWien, is the largest permanent presentation of the works of the Austrian artist and visionary.

A visit is definitely worthwhile – especially for fans of unusual architecture. The Kunst Haus stands out from the outside. Inside, visitors can learn more about Hunderwasser’s life, his philosophy, his love of nature and his entire oeuvre. The permanent exhibition offers a unique cross-section of Hundertwasser’s work for young and old alike and is appreciated as a unique visitor experience that often ends in the landscaped garden. With the presentation of artists who take up Hundertwasser’s ideas on ecology and sustainability and reflect on them from today’s transdisciplinary perspective, the museum is also regarded as the first “green museum” and a platform for globally discussed topics of great topicality.

Vienna’s First Green Museum

In Vienna’s first Green Museum, visitors can also experience the visionary ecological commitment of Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The artist experimented with green roofs and planted trees in the façades. But it is not only Hundertwasser’s ecological commitment that can be experienced in the museum. All other exhibitions and events also focus on the topics of sustainability, resource management, ecology, and the environment, as does the entire museum operation itself.

Café Friedlich

After a successful visit to the museum, high-quality, seasonal food can be enjoyed in the jungle-like oasis of the KunstHausWien. This green oasis invites you to linger and relax.
