The Ronacher Vienna is one of the most renowned musical theaters in the country and is a fixture for anyone who appreciates spectacular musical theater. Centrally located in Vienna’s first district and just a few minutes away from St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the theater is an important meeting place for culture lovers. With the QueerCityPass Vienna, you also get a 10% discount on current musicals when booking tickets online*.
Its origins date back to 1872, when the building was opened under the name “Wiener Stadttheater” (Vienna City Theater). In the decades that followed, the Ronacher underwent several transformations: it served as a variety theater, an entertainment theater, and even, for a time, as an ORF television studio. It was not until the 1980s that it was repositioned as a musical theater. Today, the theater is run by the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and is one of the most important theater venues in the city.
Thanks to extensive modernization in the 1990s and 2000s, the Ronacher now combines stylish historical architecture with contemporary stage and sound technology—perfect conditions for elaborate musical productions.
The Ronacher owes its special status above all to its high-quality and varied program:
With its combination of quality, diversity, and central location, the Ronacher delights both local audiences and visitors from all over the world and is considered a central destination for musical fans.
Another plus point: since 2025, the Ronacher has been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel. The theater is thus sending a clear signal for environmentally conscious action and sustainable cultural offerings.
